This week, I caught an awesome clearance sale at Torrid…my newest LOVE for women’s clothes. I found quite a few fun things that I really loved and a few that I wasn’t quite sure about. This was one of them. The price was a serious STEAL, especially considering how expensive the clothes are at Torrid. But it was pink. Pink. A little history. Heather doesn’t wear pink…never has.Ok wait….I guess that’s not entirely true. I’m sure my mom dressed me in pink when I was little, but I have not worn pink as long as I have been old enough to pick out my own clothes. I remember all growing up, my mom would try and slip in a few pink things when I was trying on school clothes and I would politely put them at the bottom of the pile. I just don’t do pink. Growing up and even through my college years, I just wasn’t the “pink” type of girl..that was for “sissy girls”…and that wasn’t me. When each of the granddaughters turned 16, we got to go sporting with my Grandma Dahlquist and she bought us each a dress or an outfit. When it came for my turn, I begged her for a pair of OVERALLS. I think she just about fell over. In her eyes, “overalls were for men.” LOL! But she finally gave in and I did get my overalls and LOVED THEM.....and that made her happy. :-) I just have never been the pink, frilly, girly type of girl.
When I found out that I was having a baby girl, I said that I would not be the type of mom that dressed her baby girl in pink all of the time. Little did I know at the time that there are VERY FEW outfits for baby girls that AREN’T in pink. And when little Seneca arrived, it changed everything…..it was PINK PINK PINK just about all the time. Having my precious little girl definitely was the first step towards me warming up to pink. But that was for her….not for me. So as I looked at the mirror in the dressing room, I kept going back and forth about this Pepto Pink shirt. I loved the design and style of the shirt….but it was pink. Finally, I decided that I would just do it. Why not?! What did I have to lose? It was a $25 shirt for only $10. How could I resist that…even if it WAS pink?! LOL! So today was the day I decided to make history in the life of Heather D. White. I had a dentist appointment and thought that that would be a good “try out” for this very GIRLY apparel. LOL! When I stepped out of the room, Chas looked up and then took a double take and said, “WOW! PINK!!” LOL! I think he was slightly shocked…but in a good way. (When I told Chas today about how much my mom had always tried to get me to wear pink, he just smiled and said, "Maybe your mom was onto something!" LOL!) And not only was it a PINK shirt, but if you look closely, there are RUFFLES on the front!! RUFFLES! Good gracious..what is the world coming to? LOL! Heather is wearing a PINK shirt with RUFFLES. And if that wasn’t enough, I decided to rummage through my boxes of designer replica sunglasses and found a MATCHING PEPTO PINK pair of replica Dulce Gabbana ones. NICE! LOL! So anyway….when I got home from the dentist, we decided that my first time decked out in PINK was TOTALLY “blog-worthy.” LOL! So I don’t know….what do you think? Pretty in pink? Not sure. Might still have to warm up to it a little bit!
I realized 4 months ago that it had been OVER 3 YEARS since I visited my dentist. Oh my goodness. CRAZY! So I immediately called and made an appointment for the SOONEST available time slot….which was today. Crazy. My dentist’s office is booked SO far in advance. So, considering it had been over 3 years, I was a little worried about the appointment today. But not as worried as when I sat down in the chair and was told that it had been since MAY 2004 that I had been in. OVER FOUR YEARS!!!!!!!!!!! Oh goodness. During the cleaning, I had the most awesome chat with the dental hygienist who has become a good friend of ours, since we have been going there so long. She is great. We talked about so many things that you would NEVER really chat about while you are getting your teeth cleaned. LOL! We both really enjoyed it and it was so nice to get to know her better.. So fun. And after the X-rays and cleaning, she came over to me and said, “After 4 years of not coming in, I really should be telling you about what terrible shape your gums are in and that your teeth are all rotting out. However, I can’t do that. Your mouth is in beautiful shape and considering you have never had braces or anything, you have the most beautiful set of teeth.” Oh happy day! Then, our incredibly awesome dentist came in and said the same thing, that other than two little bitty cavities, I was in good shape. Miracle, if you ask me. YAY!!! I did notice, however, that I have the slightest space in between two of my teeth that hasn’t always been there. I also have a really tiny chip off the bottom of one of my front teeth. Our dentist asked if I clenched my teeth, which I answered yes…and he said that that most likely caused the chip and the space, which both can be fixed easily. I never knew I clenched my teeth until my regular massage therapist that I had years ago kept having to massage my jaw quite a bit and mentioned that I must clench my jaw in my sleep. It wasn’t until after then that I noticed that every morning, my jaw ached and was sore for clenching. Not sure why I do that….stress probably. Go figure…all of my health problems are somehow stress related. Seems like that is often the case with everyone. Anyway…he said that those little things can be fixed easily at my next appointment in a few weeks. And JUST to make sure that I get back sooner than FOUR YEARS, I made an appointment for March before leaving today.
The weather is already starting to cool down here, but many of us here in our circle are not quite ready to give up our warm summer night activities. We have had so much fun hanging out just about every night this summer and the thought of the hibernation season quickly approaching is too much to bear. LOL! So although the nights have been SO chilly, we have still been getting together, roasting marshmallows over the firepit and watching movies together outside on the lawn. The other night was the second time this week that we’d gotten together outside after the kiddies went to bed to watch a movie and it was COOOOOOLD! Half the time, Chas was bundled up with his blankie completely covering his head because he was so cold. LOL! We kept saying, ‘What are we THINKING?’ but loved every minute of it. Because it was so cold, I decided to make Mint Truffle Hot Chocolate for everyone. This time around, it was just me and Chasy and my friends and neighbors Saunie and Angela. And I have to say, that although it’s not Starbucks, I make a pretty mean hot chocolate. I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS make it with milk…scalding the milk in a pot and then beating it until it's foamy. Then I add Stephen’s Flavored Hot Cocoa and beat it again with a whisk. Then I squirt a generous amount of whipped cream on the top of each one. And usually, I also drizzle chocolate syrup over the top….but I was out. It...was...HEAVENLY! And it’s a good thing we had it because it was COLD! LOL! Good times.
Well, I’d better get to work. Lots of fun things planned for tonight and I have a lot of things in store for YOU as well. Stay tuned for more fun CRAFTS and after a slight break, stay tuned for my September Visiting Teaching “Happy Thing!!” Until next time….make today a GREAT ONE!!
Are you kidding me! You are HOT in Pink! Love the color and the ruffles. So trendy and so Hot. Yup! You are one of those....what do they call it?...."Yummy Mummies". : D
I hate going to the dentist. When I was in college, I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled, and then I didn't go back again for about 10 years. I kid you not. I was so nervous to find out what condition my teeth were in when I finally did. Guess what they said, "Please stop brushing your teeth so hard. You are receding your gums back too much.". LOL! That was it. Nothing else wrong. Phew! And I am not surprised you had a great check up too. Look at your smile! And to think all this time, I thought you were getting your smile professionally whitened. How can you be so lucky? : D

You look HOT in pink!
Wow! I feel the exact same way about pink...well I used to anyway. I haven't owned anything pink since I was a little girl. Last May, I had to get a new cell phone and my choice was a pink RAZR with flowers, or a Silver RAZR with a dragon. I broken down and got the pink one. Then in March I broke down and bought a bright pink shirt. It hung in my closet for at least two months until I finally broke down and wore it. At first I felt uncomfortable. My husband was even shocked to see me in pink. He had been trying to get me to wear pink for YEARS. Now I love pink. I own TWO pink shirts and love my pink RAZR phone.
I guess it's the love of pink is born with us, it just takes time for it to come out!

I love the pink, you look awesome and it was TOTALLY meant to be since you had the matching sunglasses to go with the shirt. I keep meaning to go to Torrid since you have said it's so awesome. My gay cousin gave me a gift certificate for Torrid about 3 years ago, and I've just had it in my purse. The closest Torrid to me in Dallas is about 45 min away, but if they're having a sale, I might just have to go and check it out! :D

You really should wear pink more often. It looks so good.
Are the sunglasses from Torrid too? I need some cheap knock offs I am not responsible enough with my glasses to own real ones.
Oh and I needed the reminder about the dentist, thanks I think.

Pink looks great on you. I loved it! I think it is funny because I never liked pink growing up either, for the same reason it was too girlie, blue was my color. Now pink is my favorite and girlie is just fine. Funny how time changes us huh? I even have a few pink purses, go figure. I love the pink glasses you have too. You rock!
