In most cases of divorce, both parents take turns spending all of Christmas with their babies. It's kind of an "all or nothing" situation. We have a unique and wonderful arrangement in our situation. My family celebrates Christmas on Christmas Eve every year. And ironically, Chas' family celebrates Christmas on Christmas DAY every year. Instead of alternating years, which would result in the kids missing one or the other celebration with either family each year, Chas and I decided that the kids would be with me EVERY Christmas Eve and that they would be with him EVERY Christmas Day. That way, our babies get BOTH of US...and BOTH sides of the family...EVERY year. It's such a great arrangement for them..and for us. And so, since I never have my babies for the "real" Christmas morning, we decided to make our own. Now, every year on December 23rd, we celebrate our Christmas Eve, which we have affectionately decided to refer to as "Christmas Adam." Santa Claus visits us that night and we celebrate OUR "Christmas morning on the morning of December 24th. Then....we head to Oma & Opa's that night for Christmas Eve with my whole family. Afterwards, we meet up with Chas and the kiddies go home to spend the night with Daddy to wake up the next morning for THEIR Christmas morning! :-) So fun! Seems like almost an entire week of Christmas for my sweet babies!
This year, Jeff joined us for Christmas Adam. My babies love him so much already and it was so fun to have him with us. We started out our special evening by going out to dinner at Red Robin.....one of Kaden & Seneca's favorite places to eat. Jeff was so sweet to treat us all to dinner. After dinner, we surprised the kids by taking them to see "HUGO." The movie had really great reviews and Jeff and I enjoyed it. However, despite the good reviews, we decided that it's a little too "intellectual" for little ones. Just a heads up. LOL! Still, they really enjoyed it. On our way home after the movie, we stopped at a beautiful nativity scene (with live animals) that our home teacher and his family sets up just up the street from us every year. The kids jumped up front with us and Jeff read The Christmas Story from the scriptures. We shared our thoughts about Christ and the true meaning of Christmas and then headed home. Once we got there, the kiddies got to open their first present....NEW PAJAMAS! Oh how I wish I had all of my pictures. My external hard drive died and I lost 2 years of pictures and all of my photo shoots from the past few years....which included all of the pics from Christmas Adam and and OUR Christmas morning. So grateful that I had posted these few pictures on Facebook before everything was lost. Seneca's jammies were a particularly AWESOME find. In fact, I will take a picture of them and add them to this entry later. I just about DIED when I came across one pair of JUSTIN BIEBER JAMMIES...and IN HER SIZE!!! Considering her request to Niklaus at the beginning of December, I couldn't believe how perfect they were! She was so giggly and thrilled to death about her Justin Bieber jammies. I am so heartbroken that I lost those pictures of her reaction. You will just have to imagine.
Unfortunately, this photo above is the only picture I have from Santa's visit to our house on Christmas Adam. Oh what fabulous gifts he brought my babies this year. Seneca's main gift from Santa Claus this year was a big and beautiful doll house that she has played with every day since she received it. And Kaden received his heart's greatest desire.....the LEGO POLICE STATION. This year was, by far, one of the funnest years so far. I have never seen my kids SO EXCITED on Christmas morning. Oh my heart....what an amazing evening..and morning. After all of their presents were opened, we brushed our teeth and headed out to IHOP for Christmas Eve breakfast. It was SUCH a perfect day!
I feel so overwhelmingly blessed. This Christmas was truly a Christmas of miracles...and many angels. And what a beautiful experience to share Christmas Adam with three of my GREATEST miracles...my sweet angel babies and my best friend and love. I can't remember ever being this happy....or having a Christmas Eve ("Adam" in our case) more memorable. God is so very good to us. Pure joy.....
